Anesthesia Options

Various types of anesthetic options are available to decrease the anxiety and the discomfort associated with oral surgical procedures. We offer the following methods:

Local anesthesia: “numbing” the area to be treated with injection of medication.

Intravenous anesthesia: injection of sedative/anesthetic drugs into a vein to produce an altered level of consciousness.

Intramuscular injection: If a child will not cooperate with a combination of nitrous oxide gas and local anesthesia, a sedative can be adminstered through an intramuscular injection.

Nitrous oxide: or “laughing gas” can be used to help achieve a relaxed effect, either along or in combination with one of the other techniques.

Further instructions regarding the preperation of the patient to receive these methods can be found in the surgical instructions section of the website or by calling our office.
